There is a revolution going on…many people are going outdoors to sleep. For some it is to get the primal benefits of grounding and negative ions, for others it is a necessity to find a place to rest away from off-gasing chemicals in modern homes and electrical wiring and WIFI. Whichever it is, the common discovery is: they sleep better outdoors. This is also a technique used to practice your outdoor skills and gear, before you embark on a bigger trek. You can develop a relationship with the outdoors so there is not a barrier when you head beyond the trailhead. Away from indoor chemicals, artificial wiring, and stale air, the body remembers how to rest. Sleeping on the ground—whether in a backyard, campsite, or simple shelter—can recalibrate circadian rhythms, soothe the nervous system, and restore a sense of deep belonging with the Earth. In this short video, I share my own backyard sleep sanctuary and the simple, practical choices that make outdoor sleeping safe, comfortable, and deeply nourishing. If you’ve been craving deeper rest, clearer mornings, or a more ancestral relationship with sleep, this is an invitation to step outside.
